New 2004 Nickel

The first of the two Jefferson Nickels reverses commemorating the Louisiana Purchase will be "officially" released March 14th in St. Louis, MO. Kids will get free samples, while others will get the opportunity to obtain them at face value. Although this is the "official" release, they were available this past weekend (6-7 March) at coin shows.

The first of the two reverses features the clasped hands of an Indian chief and white man, with crossed tomahawk and peace pipe above. The inscription LOUISIANA PURCHASE, and the date of the year of the signing of the document, 1803.

The second reverse, by Mint Sculptor-Engraver Al Maletsky, features a 55-foot long keelboat, the largest of three vessels that carried explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and members of their Corps of Discovery along the river route on their way to the Pacific coast. Lewis and Clark can be seen in military garb in the bow of the vessel with crewmembers poling behind.

The obverse remains Felix Schlag's portrait of Jefferson.

We are always looking to purchase your coins. Right now we are looking for most key dates and better dates. We prefer slabs, but will consider any non-problem coins. We are constantly upgrading our inventory and because of that we pay top dollars for quality pieces. We rarely lose a deal.
